FU Cancer
One of the most meaningful projects I've had the privilege to be a part of was the development of an e-commerce website for FU Cancer, a charity that holds a special place in my heart.
FU Cancer is the brainchild of Heather Duff, a friend, teammate, and cancer warrior who left an indelible mark on my life. Her unwavering spirit and determination were truly inspirational, and when the opportunity arose to assist in creating a new FU Cancer website, I couldn't have been more eager to help.
The primary objective was to design a user-friendly platform for people to donate to the charity, register for events, purchase tickets, and read about FU Cancer and Heather's incredible journey. Additionally, we aimed to streamline the process of team registration for the annual Stick it to Cancer fancy dress hockey tournament in Edinburgh and make ticket sales for the afterparty dinner hassle-free.
To achieve these goals, I opted for a Squarespace website. Squarespace not only provided the essential e-commerce functionality for event registration and ticket sales but also offered a versatile canvas for creative expression, allowing us to breathe life into the FU Cancer brand.
Transitioning from WordPress, we seamlessly transferred all existing blog posts, images from previous events and tournaments, and fundraising information. This ensured that the rich history and legacy of FU Cancer were preserved while giving the website a fresh and modern look.
In 2023, the Stick it to Cancer tournament reached new heights, with a record-breaking 20 teams registered to play. Even more impressive was the amount raised for Maggie's Centres in Scotland—over £25,000. This remarkable achievement was a testament to Heather's enduring spirit and the tremendous support from the FU Cancer community.
In April 2023, Heather lost her fierce battle with cancer. She left behind an incredible legacy, an inspiring story, and cherished memories for all of us. The FU Cancer movement lives on, and we remain resolute in saying #FUCancer, honouring Heather's indomitable spirit and her enduring impact on us all.
